behaviour. It is a field of study that seeks to understand and explain how

human behaviour, including cognition, emotion, perception, personality, social
interactions, development, and mental health.

is Industrial-Organizational Psychology? (IOP)
Organizational
psychology, also known as industrial-organizational psychology, is a field of
psychology that studies human behaviour in organizations and the workplace. It
focuses on understanding how individuals and groups function within
organizations, as well as how organizations themselves operate and how they can
be improved to achieve the organizational goals as well as individuals.
Why
is IOP important to HRM?
Industrial-organizational
psychology (IOP) is very important to human resources management because it
provides a scientific understanding of human behavior in the workplace, which
helps organizations to optimize their hiring, training, and management
practices. It is used in several important areas of HRM,
v Employee Selection.
Employee
selection is a very important function not only for the HRM but also for the
entire organization to select the right person as per the requirement. So IOP
helps to develop valid and reliable selection methods, such as personality
tests, cognitive ability tests, and job simulations that can predict job
performance and identify the best candidates for a particular job.

v Improve Employee Engagement and
Motivation.
This
is a very important area of any organization for employee retention and
reducing turnover to keep the entire organization in a stable position. So IOP
can be used to improve employee engagement and motivation by identifying the
factors that contribute to employee satisfaction and engagement, such as job
design, compensation, and work-life balance, and develop strategies to enhance
these factors.
According
to Riumin, D. (2020) Industrial Organizational Psychology affects all functions
of Human Resources Management, and its main functions are Job Analysis,
Personal Recruitment and Selection, Performance Appraisal, Training and
Development and Directing.
