It focuses on understanding how individuals and groups function within organizations, as well as how organizations themselves operate and how they can be improved to achieve the organizational goals as well as individuals.

Why is IOP important to HRM?

Industrial-organizational psychology (IOP) is very important to human resources management because it provides a scientific understanding of human behavior in the workplace, which helps organizations to optimize their hiring, training, and management practices. It is used in several important areas of HRM,

v   Employee Selection.

Employee selection is a very important function not only for the HRM but also for the entire organization to select the right person as per the requirement. So IOP helps to develop valid and reliable selection methods, such as personality tests, cognitive ability tests, and job simulations that can predict job performance and identify the best candidates for a particular job.

v   Training and Development.

HRM can use IOP for the training and development of employees in the organization to design training programs that are effective and efficient, and that can improve employee skills and performance.

v   Improve Employee Engagement and Motivation.

This is a very important area of any organization for employee retention and reducing turnover to keep the entire organization in a stable position. So IOP can be used to improve employee engagement and motivation by identifying the factors that contribute to employee satisfaction and engagement, such as job design, compensation, and work-life balance, and develop strategies to enhance these factors.

According to Riumin, D. (2020) Industrial Organizational Psychology affects all functions of Human Resources Management, and its main functions are Job Analysis, Personal Recruitment and Selection, Performance Appraisal, Training and Development and Directing.
